Arts and entertainment can be found year-round in Winchester and Las Vegas. There are a great many museums and art programs available for residents, as well as the internationally famous shows and attractions of the Las Vegas Strip. From gaming to concerts to just being dazzled by the lights, Winchester residents are within arm’s length of the Strip and have plenty of choices when they need a change of pace from suburban life.

Those seeking outdoor excitement in and around Winchester don’t need to travel far. The nearby Colorado River offers exciting opportunities for whitewater rafting. Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston are popular destinations for hiking, rock climbing and outdoor photography. During the winter, Mt. Charleston and several other nearby slopes also offer skiing. The Clark County Wetlands Park and Nature Preserve is another beautiful site in the area and features approximately five miles of trails. The ponds, streams and various wetland plants provide a habitat for many migratory birds. The park also includes an education center that offers instructive programs and exhibits.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a favorite among residents. Three of America\'s four desert ecosystems -- the Mojave, Great Basin and Sonoran deserts -- converge in this unique desert park. Its huge lakes provide opportunities for boating, swimming, water-skiing, fishing, or simply enjoying the sun. The area also features a wide variety of plants and animals, some not found anywhere else in the world. Popular among hikers, wildlife photographers and roadside sightseers, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area was the first of its kind in the country and attracts more than 10 million visitors each year.

Quality education is a top priority in Clark County. In addition to traditional and magnet schools, the Clark County School District provides an alternative high school. The district is dedicated to constantly improving student performance and closing achievement gaps.

There are also several post-secondary learning institutions in the Winchester area. The Community College of Southern Nevada offers excellent associate\'s degree and continuing education programs, while the larger University of Nevada at Las Vegas offers 180 associate’s, bachelor\'s, and doctoral degree programs. UNLV is a premier urban university and is well known for its criminal justice and social work programs.
